Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Today the Grand Princess became the last Princess ship to enter the port of Santo Domingo. The harbour is full of garbage. Apparently the beaches are also covered with garbage. Unfortunately, this is not a city that appears to take pride in its image and presentation to the world. While those passengers that we talked to who went on shore excursions had a good time and enjoyed what they saw, we think that the way this city presents itself has made Princess determine that this is not a port that they want on their itineraries.

We left the ship only to visit the small shops in the terminal. These shops were, surprisingly, some of the nicest terminal shops that we have seen. Most of the things being offered for sale were handmade articles instead of the usual “touristy” things.

This evening we watched “The King’s Speech” – outdoors on an enormous screen – Movies Under the Stars. What an amazing movie. (It made Graham cry).
